Consumer Market Veteran Joins Palm Computing as Vice President of Development
LOS ALTOS, Calif. — January 20, 1994 — Palm Computing Thursday announced that Mark Johnson-Williams has joined as vice president of development.
Johnson-Williams will be responsible for setting and executing Palm's technical direction and will oversee the company's engineering organization, including software development, project management and software quality assurance.
"Mark's proven track record of developing new products for highly competitive consumer markets will provide Palm with the leadership to execute its technical vision for the palmtop market," said Donna Dubinsky, president and CEO of Palm Computing. "His success in assembling a variety of technologies to create new product categories supports Palm's mission of breaking out of existing technology metaphors."
Johnson-Williams has over 15 years of experience in producing creative, high quality and timely products for consumer markets. Most recently, Johnson-Williams was director of engineering for Sega of America, where he was most noted for the design and development of the Sega Virtual Reality Project and creating a new line of electronic consumer products. At Sega of America, Johnson-Williams was responsible for multi-million dollar design projects coordinating large software and hardware development teams.
Prior to his position at Sega of America, Johnson-Williams was director of engineering and product development at the Sight and Sound Division of Western Publishing, responsible for new technology development, product engineering and manufacturing. He also held the positions of director of engineering for Lewis Galoob Toys and Coleco Industries and senior project engineer at Milton Bradley/Hasbro/Playskool working within the Advanced Research Division.
Johnson-Williams holds a B.S. in Physics from Iowa State University and MBA from the University of Massachusetts. He is responsible for four technology patents with two additional patents pending and is a member of IEEE, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
