Borealis Delivers Industry’s Most Advanced 3Com Palm Computing Integration Product
CARSON CITY, Nev. — November 2, 1998 — Borealis Technology Corporation today announced the immediate availability of the newest release of Borealis for Palm(tm), the most advanced integration package on the market for incorporating 3Com's Palm III(tm) and PalmPilot(tm) connected organizers into the enterprise.
Borealis for Palm, now in its second release, delivers an out-of-the box Palm Computing(R) platform integration package, enabling customers to import and export key customer information to the hand-held device.
"Borealis is the first vendor on the market to provide this level of integration with the Palm III and PalmPilot professional organizers," said Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic alliances and platform development for 3Com's Palm Computing company. "We're pleased that Borealis is working to expand the Palm's enterprise functionality."
Heidelberg USA, a sales and service subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmachinen, AG, plans to deploy Borealis for Palm to its fleet of sales representatives.
"With Borealis for Palm we can selectively send and receive data from the Palm organizer, truly incorporating the device as an enterprise resource," said Bruce Mabel, manager, marketing data systems, Heidelberg USA. "Incorporating the Palm Computing platform support into Borealis makes the system that much more useable for our mobile field professionals."
"Borealis for Palm provides the ability to upload and download selective information," said Michael D'Eath, vice president of product marketing and business development for Borealis. "For example, you might want to download just your top 10 accounts' names and phone numbers or your tasks for this week. Other solutions on the market don't provide this capability," he continued. "Sending everything on your desktop to the Palm Computing device is not a realistic option with the size of today's mobile enterprise environment."
About the Mobile Office
Industry analyst firms like Aberdeen, Gartner and the META Group concur that the customer relationship management market will continue to grow at an accelerated rate over the next several years, reaching as much as $ 4.45 billion in 2001. However, the majority of sales to date in the CRM market have been in "tethered" telesales, call center and help desk markets.
A different environment is required for highly mobile professionals. Companies with large fleets of mobile users need agile, flexible and easy-to-use application solutions that can be easily managed, modified and re-deployed over time. Borealis has termed the Mobile Office as the key integration point between front-office applications, back-office data and mobile users.
Current solutions based on client/server technologies have failed to penetrate customer accounts with large numbers of mobile users due to inherent architectural flaws and the inability to adequately manage the Mobile Office constituency. Borealis provides an integrated Mobile Computing Platform with the essential foundation services — including data and file distribution, communication and security and application management — required to support rapidly changing enterprises with large numbers of mobile users.
