Whole-Brain Combines Activerse’s Ding! With Palm Pilot

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 1 — December 1, 1998 — Whole-Brain Media (www.wholebrain.com), leading developer of handheld device connectivity solutions, today previewed its newest offering — DinGo! — at the 3Com Palm Computing Platform Developer Conference in Santa Clara, California. DinGo! brings online presence and collaboration to the handheld device market, through Activerse's (www.activerse.com) Ding! Enterprise presence platform. Built with Activerse's DingBot Software Developer's Kit (SDK), DinGo! combines the presence capabilities of Ding! and Whole-Brain's unique approach to connecting handheld computers and other devices to traditional networks.

DinGo! allows handheld users to communicate with any Ding! user anywhere on the wireless/wired network. This includes handheld users, standard network PC users, or any other application embedded with Ding! presence technology. Using online presence information and instant messaging, DinGo! gives handheld users a mobile solution for staying connected to the people and dynamically changing information they require. Bringing presence to fast growing network devices such as handhelds and "smart phones" provides crucial information to a new range of users, allowing them to stay productive and in touch.

DinGo! makes efficient use of wireless network traffic by routing most configuration and protocol work to specialized Runnable Application Framework(TM) servers, sending the handheld client only update and change information. Like other modular Whole-Brain solutions, DinGo! is efficient and flexible, due in part to the DingBot SDK itself.

"We see this as a dynamic example of what the Ding! presence platform can do," said Jon Werner, Director of Business Development for Activerse. "We designed the DingBot SDK for such situations — for forward thinking developers with unique ideas about taking presence beyond the PC and into the real world. Whole-Brain used the DingBot SDK to do exactly that."

The DingBot SDK was designed by Activerse to help enable presence in a wide variety of applications and technologies. Taking advantage of the open nature of the Ding! presence architecture, developers can use DingBot SDK to build presence into software and systems, regardless of any other underlying protocols and platforms.

"The DingBot SDK offers a clean application programming interface making it easy to integrate Activerse's Ding! into any Java application," said Dan Massey, Director of Software Development for Whole-Brain Software. "In less than a week we had a prototype and in less than a month DinGo! was complete. It was very easy to tap into Ding!'s presence mechanism. We will continue to use the DingBot SDK to add to the capabilities of DinGo!."
