Xceed Announces New Wireless Division and Premieres Applications
NEW YORK — September 15, 1999 — Men's Health and ChannelSeven.com Now Available for the Palm VII(TM) Organizer
Xceed Inc., (Nasdaq: XCED) announced today the formation of the Xceed Wireless Division, which will focus on creating applications for wireless devices including the Palm VII(TM) connected organizer and Microsoft Windows CE compatible hand-held computers.
Xceed Wireless recently completed wireless applications for the popular men's magazine, Men's Health, and for ChannelSeven.com, the Industry resource for Internet Development, Marketing and Advertising executives. The applications, built using Palm Computing's Query Application Builder software, converts standard HTML into Web Clipping Applications for the Palm VII organizer.
"Wireless technology will have a dramatic impact on e-commerce and interactive business. We are dedicating significant resources to ensure that our clients are positioned to benefit from these changes," said Scott Mednick, chairman and chief strategic officer of Xceed Inc. "From experience we know the importance of being first to market with new technologies, which is why we are committing the resources to helping our clients leverage wireless technology today."
"Web Clipping for the Palm VII organizer has revolutionized the collection of information from the Internet by gathering only the information you need," said Scott Lincke, director of wireless products of Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company. "Now, publications such as Men's Health can take advantage of the Palm VII device's wireless capabilities to offer real-time up-to-date content for Palm VII users."
Xceed's application for Men's Health allows information to be sent directly to specific areas of the user's Palm(TM) device, for example, daily diet and exercise information that can be automatically integrated into a user's calendar. This application also offers users the ability to order and pay for a subscription with their Palm(TM) device.
"Men's Health readers are a very active group of individuals who often don't have time to sit back with a magazine. Xceed's wireless application, joining Palm Computing's technology with our web site, is an ideal solution for people on the go," said Michael Corcoran, executive editor of Men's Health magazine. "Men's Health is now able to allow people to subscribe to the publication with their Palm device and provide daily updates on topics ranging from health and fitness, sex, and financial advice."
For ChannelSeven.com, Palm users will receive daily news and analysis on the advances of Internet advertising and marketing trends. "We are committed to making our content as mobile as our readers," said Mara Lipacis, editor-in-chief of ChannelSeven.com. "We are as interested in the wireless technology as our readers, and will update our readers on our experiences as this technology evolves."
