Centura’s RDM Data Management Solution Now Supports Palm Computing Platform
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — October 25, 1999 — Centura(TM)Software Corporation (Nasdaq: CNTR), leader in e-business and Information Appliance databases and development solutions, announced today its support of the Palm Computing platform.
Centura's award-winning Raima Database Manager(R) (RDM) will be ported to the Palm Computing platform. This enables more robust and complete data management solutions, which further ignite enterprise information to be deployed on Palm(TM) devices. RDM is a high-performance, ultra-small footprint data management solution that enables developers to quickly build customizable data storage and retrieval into applications for Information Appliances and intelligent devices. devices.
"Many large corporations are looking for effective means to mobilize their enterprise data," says Byron Connell, vice president of Marketing, Palm Computing, Inc. "Centura's established experience within the Information Appliance and portable database product areas will help them to provide compelling solutions that leverage the simplicity and power of the Palm Computing platform."
The trend in extending the enterprise to handheld computing is further supported by market research analysts, such as Dataquest, who report that the market for embedded data management tools is expected to grow to $110 million by 2003.
"Centura Software is strongly committed to supporting Palm Computing's expanding handheld device leadership position," states Joe Falcone, Centura's chief technical officer. "In rapidly growing markets like sales force automation and health care, RDM offers developers unprecedented reliability and performance — combined with an ultra-small footprint — making RDM uniquely suited to handheld device applications."
RDM combines both the relational database and the network pointer models, enabling developers to create designs that include aspects of both models. By selecting desired features of both models, more complex designs and faster, more efficient databases can result; thus adding increased value to mobile devices such as the Palm devices.
Centura also provides RDM source code, allowing developers to customize the database to meet footprint requirements and other application demands.
