Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing Wins Pen Expo’s “Best of Show for Pen Operating Systems”
September 29, 1993 — Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing garnered national praise last month when it won Pen Expo’s “Best of Show for Pen Operating Systems” at the annual trade show in Boston, August 31-September 3.
The award was made by the show’s 2,500 attendees in a poll of major leading pen operating systems on the market today, including the software that runs the recently introduced and much discussed Apple Newton. Other contenders for the title included GO’s PenPoint, PenWrite, PenDOS and IBM Pen for OS/2. The award will be officially announced in the next issue of Pen Magazine, sponsor of the trade show.
In other news about Windows for Pen Computing this month, the IBM ThinkPad 750P and the Compaq Concerto notebook computers will come preinstalled with Windows for Pen Computing software. Compaq’s notebook includes two pen-centric applications: SLATE PenPower for Microsoft supports pen edits and annotations in Microsoft Excel; InkWare NoteTaker lets people write, organize and access handwritten or keyed notes and memos.
