Bill Campbell Named President and Chief Executive Officer of GO Corp.

January 18, 1991 — GO Corp. Friday announced the appointment of William V. Campbell, 50, to the post of president and chief executive officer, effective Monday, Jan. 21, 1991.

Jerrold Kaplan, co-founder and former president and CEO, was named chairman, a post previously held by L. John Doerr, general partner of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, who remains a director.

Campbell leaves Claris Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple Computer, where he was president and chief executive officer. Prior to founding Claris, Campbell was executive vice president and group executive for sales and marketing from 1984 to 1987 at Apple where he was responsible for Apple’s marketing programs and establishing Apple’s sales force and dealer channel.

Previously, Campbell was director of marketing for the film division at Eastman Kodak Co., and vice president of J. Walter Thompson. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in economics from Columbia University.

”Bill Campbell’s expertise in building high-growth, technology-driven businesses will be critical to GO as we move from product development into market development on a worldwide basis,” said Kaplan. Now as chairman, Kaplan will continue to lead the technology direction for the company and identify business and market opportunities for pen-based computing.

Reporting directly to Campbell in his new post at GO are Robert Carr, co-founder and vice president of software, Kevin Doren, co-founder and vice president of advanced technology, Paul Hammel, vice president of operations, Dan’l Lewin, vice president of sales and marketing, and John Russell, vice president and chief financial officer.

Campbell also joins the board of directors which includes Kaplan, Carr, Doerr and Vinod Khosla, a general partner of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, and David Liddle, president of Metaphor Computer Systems.

GO, a privately held company, was founded in 1987 to develop pen-based computing technology. The company is located in Foster City and employs 95 people.
