CIC and Samsung Jointly Announce License Agreement for Pen-Based Software

October 16, 1991 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) and Samsung Electronic Company, Ltd. (Samsung) Wednesday jointly announced the signing of a licensing agreement for Samsung to use CIC’s Handwriter Multi-lingual Recognition System, Multiple Operating Environment Interfaces, PenDOS Pen-Based Operating Environment and Handwriter On-Line Dynamic Signature Verification System.

This agreement allows thousands of currently existing standard DOS applications to be used immediately on Sam-sung’s new PenMaster 386-based notepad computer.

“Samsung’s participation will accelerate the introduction of pen-based computing to the mass market in a most economic fashion,” said James Dao, CIC President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Samsung’s mass production strength will quickly bring down the manufacturing costs for the new generation of note-pad computers.”

Heon H. Chung, Executive Director of Samsung’s U.S. PC Research and Development Center, said ”CIC’s multiple operating environment interface and multilingual Handwriter Recognition System and related software will allow our PenMaster computer to operate with CIC’s PenDOS, Microsoft Corp.’s Windows for Pen and Go Corp.’s PenPoint.

“Our customers can immediately apply the thousands of DOS and Windows applications already in use in the marketplace, as well as future applications being developed for PenPoint.”
