CIC Signs Agreement to Bring Pen Computing to the Desktop in North America and Europe

August 18, 1993 — (NASDAQ/NMS:CICI) Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) Wednesday announced that it has signed an OEM agreement with CalComp Inc., a Lockheed company.

CalComp will produce a key component of CIC’s new line of desktop pen computing peripheral products. CIC plans to launch these products in North America in the fourth quarter of 1993 and in Europe in 1994.

Under the terms of the agreement, CalComp will manufacture an ultra-thin digitizer tablet and state-of-the-art pen to CIC’s specifications for use in CIC’s desktop pen products. The new CalComp tablet incorporates recent advances in digitizer technology, allowing the printing of circuitry on thin film (rather than a circuit board) and assembly without the requirement of extensive molded plastics. The resulting product is very thin, and less expensive to manufacture than traditional digitizer tablets.

In addition, CalComp and CIC will work cooperatively to market and distribute the new desktop pen products. Cal-Comp is a leading supplier of computer graphics products with an extensive worldwide distribution system.

“We are very impressed with CalComp’s new ultra-thin tablet,” said James Dao, president of CIC. “It represents a major technological breakthrough, and will allow us to bring pen computing to desktop users at a very economical price.”

CalComp Inc., a Lockheed company, was founded in 1958 and is headquartered in Anaheim, Calif. The company today manufactures more than 100 computer graphics products and holds major positions worldwide in the digitizer, scanner, pen- based computing, printer and plotter markets.
