Compsoft Services Announces the Availability of its Communications Products and Services for Pen Computers
November 16, 1992 — Compsoft Services announced Monday the general availability of two products from its PenNET(TM) series of communications products for pen computers that run the PenPoint(TM) operating system from GO Corporation.
Now available for shipment to users, systems integrators, application developers and hardware manufacturers are PenHost(TM) and PenASCII(TM). PenHost and PenASCII represent mobile communications that is simple and here today.
The PenNET series of products provides sophisticated connectivity software for PenPoint-based computers. These products enable mobile pen computer users to automatically and transparently establish and execute communications with mainframes, minicomputers, workstations and PCs over telephone and cellular networks. PenNET products sup-port major terminal emulation and industry standard file transfer protocols and provide an easy-to-use programming interface that makes it simple to imbed them in other applications or products. Mobile users will increase their field productivity by using the PenNET products to communicate with their business information systems in order to instantly receive updated forms and information and to transmit the results of their work activities back to the home office.
The PenHost product makes it possible for the mobile pen computer user to have interactive sessions and to execute file transfers with IBM(R) System/370(TM), System/390(TM) or compatible mainframes. All major mainframe environments are supported — VM/CMS, MVS/TSO, CICS, VSE/IWS. PenASCII provides comparable access to systems from IBM, HP, DEC(TM), SUN(R) and others that support selected ASCII terminals and the standard file protocols of XMODEM, YMODEM, ZMODEM and Kermit.
Compsoft Services also expects to make its PenAPPC(TM) product available by year end. PenAPPC enables pen computer users to have access to Advanced Program to Program Communications (APPC) applications running on IBM’s System/390, AS/400(R), RS/6000, PS/2(R), and other systems that support APPC.
Dr. Trilok Manocha, president and CEO of Compsoft Services, said, “PenHost and PenASCII have undergone extensive testing with users, hardware manufacturers and other pen computer software developers. Both products are being used today by customers. We are satisfied that we are providing pen computer communications products that are a powerful combination of superior capability, compact size and attractive price.” Taffy Holliday, executive vice president, added, “Our experience in developing complex communications software for the world’s largest hardware and software manufacturers and our experience in programming with GO Corporation’s PenPoint operating system also make it possible for us to offer excellent high skilled, cost-effective programming and consulting services to complement our PenNET series of products.”
Compsoft Services will be demonstrating their PenHost and PenASCII products in Las Vegas at COMDEX/FALL ’92 as a Co-exhibitor in GO Corporation’s Center for Mobile Communications and will have an exhibitor’s booth in San Francisco at PenExpo Jan. 26-27, 1993.
