NeXT and GRiD Executives Join GO Corp.; VP of Marketing and Sales and VP of Operations Appointed
February 16, 1990 — GO Corp. announced Friday the appointments of Dan’l Lewin, formerly of NeXT Corp., to the new position of vice president of sales and marketing, and Paul L. Hammel, previously with GRiD Systems, to the new position of vice president of operations. Both senior executive will report to S. Jerrold Kaplan, president and chief executive officer.
Lewin joins GO from NeXT where he was co-founder and vice president of marketing and sales responsible for establishing its distribution channels, as well as its numerous strategic partnerships and key customer accounts. Most recently, he was vice president of sales.
Before joining NeXT at its founding five years ago, Lewin was Apple Computer’s director of education marketing from 1981 to 1985, a business segment which accounted for approximately two-thirds of Apple’s annual revenue at the time of his departure. Previously, Lewin was district sales manager at Sony Office Products Division. Lewin, 35, earned an A.B. degree in politics from Princeton University.
Hammel joins GO from GRiD Systems of Fremont, Calif., where he has worked for the past nine years. Most recently, he was vice president of product management responsible for quality assurance and post-sale service and support for the company’s laptop and desktop computer families.
Previously, he was vice president of manufacturing, with responsibility for quality, planning, manufacturing and materials.
Prior to GRiD, Hammel worked for six years in senior positions in production management for Hewlett-Packard Corp.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota. Hammel is 44.
Founded in Sept. 1987, GO Corp. is developing technology and products to meet the computing needs of the mobile professional. GO is a private company headquartered in Foster City, and employs approximately 60 people. In addition to Kaplan, the founding management team includes Robert Carr, vice president of software, and Kevin Doren, vice president of engineering.
