Ink Development’s Pen-Based Notetaking Software Extends Flexibility of New Compaq Concerto Notebook
September 13, 1993 — Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) and Ink Development Corporation today announced that InkWare NoteTaker, a pen-based notetaking and organization application for Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing, will be pre-installed on all Compaq Concerto notebook PCs being introduced today.
Provided through a limited exclusive agreement, this software greatly increases the functionality of the Compaq Concerto, allowing mobile professionals unparalleled flexibility for writing, typing, organizing and accessing notes.
Designed for maximum comfort and usability, the Compaq Concerto, Compaq’s first notebook PC with pen capability, is the world’s only fully featured notebook that conveniently allows interactive use of the keyboard and pen.
Compaq designed Ink’s software into the Compaq Concerto, resulting in delivery of a new free-form approach to notetaking and information management. InkWare NoteTaker allows customers to take handwritten notes in any setting and organize their notes in any way. Compaq Concerto’s sleek new design features a fully detachable and tiltable slim-line keyboard, and a thin screen with a built-in handle that doubles as a stand. This versatile design lets customers position both the screen and keyboard at angles most comfortable for typing and/or writing.
“By bundling InkWare NoteTaker with the Compaq Concerto, our customers have the flexibility to take notes any way they want and the power to organize these notes the way they choose, ” said Jim Hartzog, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Compaq Portable PC Division. “We believe that InkWare NoteTaker, the first product to be shipped under a strategic marketing agreement between Compaq and Ink Development, will add significant value for business professionals.”
“We’re excited to be able to bring the benefits of mobile applications to mainstream Windows users,” said Matt Kursh, president of Ink Development. “Compaq, the leading manufacturer of Windows notebooks, is the ideal partner for us. Combining InkWare NoteTaker’s free-form approach to information management with the Compaq Concerto will vastly improve the productivity of mobile professionals.” Free-Form Notetaking and Powerful Information Management
NoteTaker is the first member of Ink’s InkWare portfolio of mobile productivity applications. It allows users to take notes in an office, meeting room, or while on the phone or on the road. For maximum ease of use, InkWare NoteTaker allows the pen to work like real world writing tools, including pens, erasers and highlighters. It also provides full keyboard support. InkWare NoteTaker features powerful organizational elements, such as SmartStamps, user-defined keywords and InkWare List. Together these features give users flexible capabilities to compile, sort and manage “To Do” and other lists, automatically.
