Softview to Support GO Corp.’s Pen-Based System
January 22, 1991 — Softview Inc., a leading developer of tax-preparation software and other productivity tools for personal computers, Tuesday announced its support of GO Corp.’s PenPoint pen-based operating system.
Softview will develop an application run-time environment for PenPoint, based on its “intelligent” forms-based technology for Macintosh and DOS/Windows platforms. Products that utilize Softview’s application development system will be able to run on Macintosh, DOS/Windows and PenPoint systems.
The announcement benefits third-party software developers who want to begin developing pen-based applications. They can develop applications for Macintosh and DOS/Windows environments now and later port them to PenPoint.
Softview’s “graphics intelligence” technology is particularly well suited to pen-based computing because of its “fit-to-window” feature. “Regardless of the actual size of the printed form, the on-screen image looks and feels like the form in a wide range of screen sizes,” said Kathy Lane, president of Softview.
GO Corp., with headquarters in Foster City, was founded in 1987 to develop pen-based computing technology. Its PenPoint operating system, which provides an easy, natural way to use a pen and a computer, makes possible a range of pen-based computers and new applications software for use by mobile workers
Softview, with headquarters in Oxnard, is a leading developer of productivity software for the Apple Macintosh and for IBM PC-compatible computers running Microsoft Windows 3.0.
Its intelligent forms technologies provide users with a friendly, graphical user interface that is common to all Softview products, including the award-winning MacInTax, Taxview, if:X Solutions and if:X Forms Designer.
