SANTA CLARA, Calif. — October 21, 1999 — A unique application for 3Com's Palm Computing, Inc. family of products that will enable health care professionals to increase productivity and reduce costs was announced today by STATmail!, Inc.(R) The Pittsburgh-based technology company unveiled its Palm Computing(R) application for the mobile health care industry at PalmSource(TM) 99, a major conference focused on the Palm Computing platform.
STATmail!, which specializes in Web, e-commerce and wireless applications, uses the Palm Pilot to provide health care providers access to its Community Health Network (CHN) of resources. The CHN supports all facets of mobile and home health care and features an on-line referral network, wireless support for scheduling of caregivers and product order management, and dynamic patient reminders that can automatically remind patients of doctor's appointments or to take medications. Its current Palm applications include medical products ordering and caregiver scheduling and billing. These applications take advantage of the wide variety of connectivity solutions currently available, with support for CDPD wireless through their partnership with J P Systems Software, dial-up connections and direct PC synchronization. Other wireless platforms, including the PalmVII(TM), are planned for early next year.
Sandra Kaukonen, executive director for Country Care Home Health in Greensburg, Pa., recognized as an innovator for improving patient outcomes and reducing costs, has worked closely with STATmail! to help design and implement the clinical functionality of the CHN. "STATmail's wireless and web applications represent the very best opportunity for small-to-medium home health agencies to survive the next wave of changes in health care oversight and reimbursement," she said.
STATmail! also supports a fast-growing Web site designed for nurses called Angels of Mercy, which can be found at www.AofM.com. It offers on-line resources for research and specific tools such as ICD9 look-up, medication sheets and suggested care plans for home health patients.
