Psion Opens West Coast Office

SAN FRANCISCO — March 14, 1994 — Psion Inc., U.S. subsidiary of British portable computer group Psion Plc, announced Monday the opening of a West Coast regional office to support its expansion in the North American market.

Psion's decision to establish a West Coast base comes after the successful launch of the Series 3a palm-top computer in September 1993.

Psion is increasing the production of Series 3 machines to 24,000 per month, a move which underscores the company's claim of leadership in the worldwide market for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).

Psion has been the main beneficiary of the failure of pen-based PDAs such as the Apple Newton and the Casio/Tandy Zoomer, to establish retail markets.

The office will be in a downtown location and will be run by Nancy Marie Rockett, formerly Psion Inc. sales and marketing manager at its North American headquarters in Concord, Mass. Rockett commented: "We pride ourselves in the quality of sales and technical support and it has become vital to do this in the same time zone as our West Coast customers."

Local West Coast computer industry professionals are being added to the existing management team.

Psion is active in both retail and corporate markets for its portable computers and has established a network of over 1,000 outlets in North America for its award-winning Series 3 palm-top computer. The company also supports over 1,000 Value Added Resellers (VARs) within its Corporate Systems Division and is seeking additional VAR involvement in the West Coast region.

The Series 3 is available at Sears, The Sharper Image, CompUSA, The Good Guys, Circuit City, Fry's Electronics and LATronics.
