Yahoo! to Deliver People Search to the Palm VII Connected Organizer
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — December 2, 1998 — Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) today announced plans to deliver Internet content to users of the Palm VII(TM) connected organizer, a new and wireless handheld computing product from Palm Computing, a 3Com company. Users of the Palm VII organizer will have wireless access to Yahoo!(R) People Search ( http://people.yahoo.com ) and its comprehensive directory of phone numbers, postal addresses, and email addresses. A leader in providing directory services to the global Internet community, Yahoo! People Search will be seamlessly integrated with Palm VII connected organizers, providing users with a familiar, intuitive interface and access to the same contact information they find online at people.yahoo.com.
"By teaming up with Palm Computing, we continue to expand the many ways in which we enable Internet users to find and connect with other people on the Web," said Tim Brady, vice president of production at Yahoo!, a leading global Internet media company. "This arrangement allows us to broaden and expand the distribution of our services, making it even easier for our users to have access to the extensive array of Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com) services."
"Yahoo! and Palm share a common vision — to make Internet-based communications easily accessible and usable to millions of people. This relationship brings together two industry leaders to take both handheld computing and the Internet into the next generation," said Andrea Butter, acting vice president of marketing for Palm Computing. "Yahoo!'s People Search solution adds an important element to the new Palm VII organizer that is integral to our goal of keeping people connected — for both personal and business purposes — from wherever in the country they may be."
The new Palm VII connected organizer, announced today at the Palm Computing Platform Worldwide Developer Conference, is the first handheld solution for out-of-the-box wireless communications and Internet access. It will provide fast, secure and easy out-of-the-box access to personal, business and Internet information, as well as a means of instant two-way communications. The product will enable users to quickly and easily obtain important information from various Web sites remotely via a wireless connection to the Internet. The Palm VII organizer enters a national field trial in January 1999 and is expected to be widely available in the United States next year.
Yahoo! People Search debuted in April 1996. With more than 100 million telephone number listings and tens of millions of email addresses, Yahoo! People Search offers its users one of the Web's most extensive directories of contact information. The service allows users everywhere to locate and get connected to anyone at anytime.
